Two types of clients typically request land and land-use histories. The first, similar to those who request house histories, is someone who acquired a parcel of land and is curiousĀ about who owned it and what it was used for before they bought it. Through a chain of title, reference to historic maps, and other primary and secondary and on-line and archival sources, West Jersey Historical Research can provide you with an illustrated history of your tract including the roles it played in the community over time.
The second type of client requires a land or landuse history in connection with possible reuse of a piece of land. Unfortunately, noxious industrial processes occurred on many pieces of land and many pieces carry the legacy of such use in their current soil. West Jersey Historical Research will work with you to trace the industrial ownership of tracts and to seek available information concerning the industrial processes that may have occurred there. This background historical research can be a critical component of a larger survey including testing to identify soil contaminants.
Please contact WJHR to discuss how we can help you learn more about your land.
