Architectural Survey

You are the chair of a local historic preservation commission. You are aware that much of your community has a concentration of historic buildings, but your power to guide the fate of many of these buildings is limited by your local ordinance that limits the commission’s jurisdiction to areas that have been surveyed and deemed significant.

WJHR is able to help by consulting with your commission to come up with a strategy to survey and evaluate other parts of your community. We can talk with you about possible funding avenues for such a survey, undertake a preliminary reconnaissance to determine areas of concentration of historic resources, and work with the members of the historical commission, the local government staff, and representatives of the SHPO staff to develop an effective and efficient intensive-level survey.

WJHR is also committed to using technology to make surveys more cost-effective and useful. We are developing techniques to use computer tablets for archival research, for field recordation, and to help merge the survey data into your jurisdiction’s existing spatial date framework. Please contact us about your survey needs.
